What you need for Online Music Lessons
On-line Music Lessons are a great choice for learning to play an instrument! You can do so in the comfort and convenience of your own home, and with internet service, you can even take your instrument to your country home or cabin, or practise on your backyard deck.
On-line Piano and Harp Lessons are offered to all ages, from beginner to advanced levels. Lessons can be arranged for single lessons or coaching sessions, or students may register for regularly scheduled music lessons.
An individualized program of study will be designed for you by Ann, to realize your musical dreams and goals. Music skills can be developed through note reading, listening and rote learning, lead sheet reading and improvisation, and gaining an understanding of theoretical and musical structure. Younger students enjoy learning through games, play and improvisation, while older students enjoy learning a variety of music, from traditional, classical, popular and more contemporary styles. Some students are motivated to work on high level repertoire and examinations, whilst others wish to add music to their lives for relaxation, and to play their instrument for pure enjoyment.
Lessons are taught from Ann’s Studio using Zoom as the preferred platform. Instruments used for teaching include acoustic and digital grand pianos, and a range of different size concert pedal and lever harps. An extensive library of music books, repertoire and teaching aids provide extra resources to make lessons fun, and full of interesting content!
Choose your device - preferably a larger screen laptop or i-pad, but a ‘phone can work too.
Optional gear you can consider to enhance your on-line experience could be a web- cam, and USB microphone.
Position your piano, keyboard or harp so that you can see Ann, and Ann can see you and your hands on the keyboard or strings.
In a private lesson, due to audio latency, we can’t play at the same time, so remember to “take turns!”
When we join together as a group, you’ll be muted so you’ll be able to play along with Ann, or to recorded music. When group music is taught this way, you’ll be able to practise and play along, and work things out without others in the “Zoom Room” hearing you.
Check to make sure you have downloaded any music or materials that Ann has sent to you prior to your lesson.
Have a pencil, and other handy tools (coloured pencils, highlighters, sticky notes, a laminated music staff whiteboard and marker) on hand so you can follow along or mark things in your music.
Keep a journal and make notes of important things to remember to do, and write down any questions or concerns that may arise, for the next lesson.
Practise hard, but have fun with your music and the instrument that you are learning, so you can successfully enjoy your on-line musical journey!
